My New Bike - Pretty but not Perfect

So I decided a few weeks ago, when the weather was way above average for March, I wanted a bike. We should have been getting snow storms but we were getting sunny, warm day with a temperature above 10 degrees Celsius. This is almost unheard of at this time of year where I live.

I wanted a bike that I could ride the streets and maybe dirt trails. So I had decided on a mountain bike. I really wanted a nice bike from the bike store in my city but I didn't want to spend $600 or more. I knew I hadn't planned on going on really rugged terrain with my bike so a really good quality wasn't absolutely necessary. Also being worried that I wouldn't actually get into bike riding I didn't want to drop that kinda cash right away. If I end up liking it and want to stick with it either next year or in a couple years I'll get a nice one.

So I looked at all the big box stores in my area (Walmart, Canadian Tire, Sportchek etc) and the smaller shops that might sell a bike for me. I saw a couple and almost bought one if it wasn't for its flaws and problems. Think extremely warped front tire!

I was getting frustrated.

My boyfriend liked my idea and bought himself a bike the first day we went looking. I wanted mine now! After all, it was my idea to get bikes. LOL!
So I was getting more and more frustrated. I live in a border city (US / Canada). I thought about looking "across the river" in the US for a bike at the sports store.

I was hopeful but not expecting anything, a lot of places still haven't gotten their bikes yet this year due to how early it is for bike season.

Anyways, at this sports store I found a bike that was green and silver.  It was a Mongoose Spear. It had the certain features I wanted (easy remove wheel, easy move seat, shifters, etc). The bike was a men’s bike but it was comfortable! And the price wasn't bad, what I had planned on spending. As I was contemplating this purchase the manager standing nearby. The manager said the bike was actually $100 cheaper than the lowest price on the bike.

SOLD!!!

At that price I couldn't get a better bike, and the price was too good to pass up.

Again, I mentioned I wasn't going for perfection or top of the line, just a temporary solution to get me into biking.  I like my bike. I don't love it. It's pretty but not perfect.   I've gone for a ride a couple times and forgot how much fun riding a bike is. I think it had been 10 years since I last rode one!

I'm now looking forward to buying a nicer bike at the bike shop here in the city.
